Brunswick, GA -- Michael Coles, candidate for the United States Senate, met with Brunswick residents and supporters at Brunswick City Hall today to discuss the need to strengthen the partnership between industry and the community in order to safeguard our natural heritage while continuing to support economic growth. “The key to success lies in creating partnerships between industry and the community,” Coles told the audience that included State Representative E.C. Tillman. “When industry and the community comes together to reach an understanding, the practices of that industry will reflect the values of that community.” Coles noted that those companies that continually ignore environmental regulations and pollute Georgia’s waters should be forced to pay and possibly face criminal penalties. However, he also noted that industries should be encouraged to comply. “As your next United States Senator, I will fight to make sure that polluters and not taxpayers are made to pay for environmental cleanups,” Coles added. “Moreover, I will make sure that tough criminal sanctions are imposed where appropriate. “Those offenders who continue to pollute our waters should be dealt with accordingly. This is truly a matter of safety. On the other hand, when a company is responsive to the community, great things can be achieved. As your next United States Senator, I will work to bring people together, and I will fight to protect both our natural heritage and the economic future of Georgia.” Coles concluded by asking for help to accomplish the goals he has set forth in his campaign. “With your help, we can send a message to Washington that it is time to put partisan politics aside and focus on the issues that matter most to the hardworking families of this country. Issues such as: health care, social security, public education and the environment.” Coles’ visit to Brunswick was one of a number of stops made in Southeast Georgia. Coles also made stops in Jekyll Island to speak to the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association and made a campaign stop in Statesboro where he toured Ogeechee Technical Institute. # # # |
