Atlanta, GA -- Michael Coles, candidate for United States Senate, today has reiterated his challenge to Paul Coverdell to take and release the results of a drug test. Coles first made the challenge on July 8 after releasing the results of his own drug test which he passed. Coles noted, “If Paul Coverdell wants to talk about his so-called ‘realistic plan to stop the flow of drugs onto our streets,’ he should first set an example by taking and releasing the results of a drug test.” Coles explained that he volunteered to take the test because “such information is directly relevant to an elected official’s character and fitness for office.” “Curbing pervasive dependence on drugs is one of the most important challenges confronting our nation. I believe that all candidates for public office should set an example by taking a drug test” Coles continued. “If Senator Coverdell has taken a drug test he should make the results known to the public. If he has not taken a drug test recently, he should do so.” The test that Mr. Coles took was a standard laboratory test, which screened for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiapines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine and tricyclic antidepressants.
