Atlanta, GA - Today, in the second televised Senatorial debate between Michael Coles, Bert Loftman and incumbent Paul Coverdell, Coles continued his crusade to inform Georgians that Coverdell has failed them on key issues such as HMO reform and veterans benefits. “Your motto shouldn’t be ‘Coverdell works’, it should be ‘Coverdell hurts,’” Coles stated. Coverdell Admits Voting to Cut $31 Billion in Vets Benefits With a number of angry veterans protesting against Coverdell outside WSB studios in Atlanta, Michael Coles again confronted Coverdell about his voting record on veteran’s medical benefits: “Senator, during your time in the Senate you have voted to cut $31 billion in veterans’ medical benefits to pay for things like tax cuts and highway funding how can you justify that to America’s veterans?” “I’ve had to make some tough calls,” replied Coverdell. Coverdell Admits He’s Against A Patient’s Right to Sue Their HMO Coles also confronted Coverdell on HMO reform: “You are opposed to giving everyday Georgians the right to sue their HMO or insurance carrier if they fail to give people care they need. How can you justify that to the families of Georgia?” continued Coles. Coverdell, a former insurance salesman who has voted against both Republican and Democratic HMO reform proposals, including a deciding vote against an October 9th Republican proposal that provided for the right to choose your own doctor and an appeals panel, had no response.. # # # |
