Atlanta, GA -- Michael Coles, candidate for United States Senate, today released the results of a drug test which he recently passed. Although no longer required by Georgia law, all candidates for Governor in Georgia have submitted to a drug test. Coles explained that he also volunteered to take the test because “such information is directly relevant to an elected official’s character and fitness for office.” Coles said, “If Senator Coverdell has taken a drug test he should make the results known to the public. If he has not taken a drug test recently, he should do so.” Coles continued, “Curbing pervasive dependence on drugs is one of the most important challenges confronting our nation. I believe that all candidates for public office should set an example by taking a drug test.” The test that Mr. Coles took was a standard laboratory test, which screened for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiapines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine and tricyclic antidepressants.
